PREVENTION IS KEY
Even if you think you are being so careful, accidents happen. Why not prevent it prior to happening?
Lenses on the #ValveIndex scratch very easy and are coated ... no chance of removing scratches AFTER they occur.
Attempting to remove or damage the coating on any spot that by polishing would most likely completely destroying the lens.
If you plan to wear glasses, applying lens protectors first IS A MUST for lens protection of your #ValveIndex HMD.

The Valve Index has 50mm lenses, so I ordered 50mm protectors. BIG MISTAKE, I recommend to order a size or two smaller -- 48mm should be good, maybe 49mm. I didn't expect this to be an issue because I was expecting something like the Oculus Rift's lenses which are flush with the fabric around them so it wouldn't matter if there was a bit coming off the edge.
Not the case with the Index, the edges of the lenses are raised silicone or rubber type material so you need to get the sizing right. The lenses also have a big notch in them for the nose, but are otherwise perfectly circular and appear to be basically flat as well, not much curvature as far as I can tell. You just need to cut off an edge with some scissors. Make sure they are large and sharp enough to do it in one clean cut.
For reference, included one picture before application and one after. I got some dust in the left lens and it comes up at the edge a tiny bit. So I made some additional small edge cuts on the right to make it fit better after struggling with the left. You won't need to worry about that if you order a smaller size. Fortunately once in VR I cannot see the dust and scuff at the edges. The protectors are very clear and pretty straightforward to apply, I highly recommend for VR glasses users.
